CLINIK: What is the significance of your name, Mista J?

MISTA J: I’ve always been a nerd and always a Batman fan and I chose the name because that’s what Harley calls the joker I can relate to him a lot 

C: How has NYC impacted your outlook on music?

MJ: NYC definitely took part in putting me on the path that I’m on now but it hasn’t really influenced my music all that much love my home but I’m inspired by different things 

C: What was your inspiration to start producing?

MJ: I just always loved this music and how different it was I think this music hits in a different way of any others 

C: What has been your favorite live performance to date? What do you miss the most about performing in front of a live crowd?

MJ: Definitely electric forest last year I played on the Jaenga bus for a solo set and a btb with Jaenga but that was one moment I will never forget it was amazing and I really miss the energy and being able to just go hang and party with some cool people 

C: Who are your three favorite artists?

MJ: 1 Lil peep, 2 ghostemane, 3 billy idol

C: What is your preferred DAW and why?

MJ: I like logic and abelton both for different things 

C: What are your favorite tools to use for sound design?

MJ: Serum is my go to that plus some effects n I’m usually good to go 

C: If you could go back to back with any artist right now who would it be and why?

MJ: Infekt I love his dj style it’s so well thought out also his music is next level 

C: What’s the biggest challenge that you have faced in your career? How did you overcome this?

MJ: Just getting started and breaking out of that local stigma another challenge is finding my own sound these next couple releases I think I’m really getting somewhere 

C: How has COVID-19 caused you to re-think your plans for this year? What can fans expect from Mista J for the rest of 2020?

MJ: Covid actually drastically effected me I’m a full time special ed teacher so now all the school is online and it added a lot to my work load but musically it helped I’ve been focused way more on my music and finding my niche . Just expect a lot of new singles collabs and my debut ep that I’m finishing up
